My Moon, My Mansion…

31 07 2009

This is an interesting interview.  I like knowing that much of the work on her album was done in one take, but most of all I really liked seeing the inside of that darn infamous mansion that she recorded in.  It looks like a real cool place to record music, especially of this genre. The rest of the interview isn’t anything I didn’t already know, but it’s a quick watch.  Check it out…

and just because I love this video, mainly because I want to run through a field of fireworks at night:

The Church of George Carlin (or was it Joe Pesce?)

20 05 2009

You know…

I love the planet, I want to save the trees, whales, seals, and all kinds of endangered species.  I do have sympathy for anything treated poorly and abused.  However, deep down… I kinda feel the way George Carlin does about it all… Maybe to a T.  When you think about it he’s right.  Granted, I don’t like to see anything innocent suffer, but uh… you can’t deny science.

On a sadder note, George Carlin is one of my favorite comedians, and quite possibly one of my favorite celebrity personalities.  It’s so funny that as a voice of reason we are not only able to agree with him, but laugh at ourselves because we know he is right.  I hope the world breeds another comedian like this guy because we need more of his kind roaming again.  Then again, he was one of kind.

RIP George Carlin.  You the man!

Drunk History

5 05 2009

I absolutely love this you tube series, so I decided to put them all in one spot for your viewing pleasure.  Perhaps, you have seen these, and perhaps you have not.  All I know is that this needed to be apart of my blog. They make me laugh every time, and I sure do love history.  I think 2.5 is my favorite.

Enjoy.

Naked In Front Of My Office

22 04 2009

I dig Matt and Kim.  Although their “privates” get blurred out, in their newest video “Lessons Learned”, M& K run around naked in slow mo and surprise NYC tourists.  What makes it especially crazy is that it’s Times Square, and not  Nowhereville, OH.  I work in Times Square, and in fact, the video ends right in front of my office. (I can see our suite windows in the background right above Bubba Gump Shrimp). I know how crowded it gets down there, and they got balls (literally).  Of course you say “duh, it’s Times Sqaure, of course it get’s crowded”.  No, no no my friend. You have NO IDEA how beastly it gets.  I could go into a whole diatribe about what days are the worst, what months are tourist hell, and what corners are the most road blocked, but I digress.  Looks they filmed in winter too, which I give them even more props for.  Crazy buggers.

Sia & Lady Gaga

20 04 2009

Isn’t it great when someone has a naturally beautiful voice? I have been into watching live performances lately. I really like to hear the real deal.

Below is is performance by Lady Gaga in Britain. Really like this performance. I like how she has a rebel spirit. It’s not all pop and shenanigans.  Good for her. Quirky bird.

Wow, I can get sexual too…

8 04 2009

OK,  so I know the song (“Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too” by Say Anything)  is 3 years old, but I woke up this morning with it stuck in my head and I just thought-  “I never saw the video”.  I did see the video for “Alive With The Glory of Love” and I simply loved it, so I had to take a peak at this one.

(Unfortunately I cannot embed the vid, so here:)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpWGhCTw_l8&feature=related

I youtubed the vid, and there he was-  Mr. Angst & Energy in all his glory.  There is something kinda hot about all that energy. You can tell that Mr. Bemis was on the brink of tortured  angst and grown up sensuality. Is anyone else with me on this? In some shots he looks totally manly and in others I feel like I am peaking into his teenage hood. Either way this video is just so many things.  Hilarious, random, bizarre, mocking, and self loathing. Surely, it was apart of the emo rock scene that was rampant 3 years ago, but I think that Say Anything has a couple more punches left in ‘em. Their second release was kinda good… sorta similar to the first, but I am looking for more. I suppose it’s time for me to do some research and for them to put out something good that isn’t necessarily in “defense of the genre”.

I wonder if he still as tortured?  Most likely.  Past reports of his mental condition have always been a muck with strife and over the counter meds.  I mean really,  listen to the structure of most Say Anything songs.  They are all madly sassy,  shift rhythm and key frenetically-  music only written by a mad man.  Hmmm…  I think that’s kinda sexy (in a completely self damning sort of way).  Oh Max…you lunatic.  Rawr….

Thank You Lays Ad

31 03 2009

I really like this song, and this band. Their EP  Lets Fall Back In Love is pretty good. Very cute.

“Thinking, Drinking, Sinking Feeling” by Slow Club (<– click  for song)

I don’t mind when a commercial introduces me to new stuff, that’s the point right? There is no other reason for using a unknown or developing artist other than cheap licensing, and artist exposure, so I’m all for it.  In addition to being in a Lay’s commercial,  Slow Club was also in a Ritz Ad…  Those are two separate companies (Frito-Lay and Nabisco), coincidence I suppose unless the members of Slow Club are snack fetishists.  However the really pumped the hell out of that Santogold (excuse me she is now Santigold) record and no one is calling her a car enthusiast.

In case you’re curious, here are both commercials, when you’re done check out the full version of each song, they’re pretty good and both build nicely at the end:

Awww sh*t!

26 03 2009

Just for shits and giggles. This reminds me of high school…

Too bad this is the edited version.  It’s the only one with full video.

Remember when green hair, (colored hair) shiny clothing,  fly girl dancing (stick that booty OUT!),  Ma$e, Lil’ Kim,  bright ass colors, shoutin’ out designers,  baggy pants, and just being a straight up gansta ho was cool!?

Nice cameo by Alliyah!

Grizzly Bear In the Bathroom

19 03 2009

I know this is oldie old, but I just discovered it on youtube today.  I think this sounds just as good (if not better) than the original.   Something about it just really beautiful and natural.  It’s the kinda thing you miss when you listen to a recording.  I like nothing more than to watch someone play an instrument, or sing in front of me.   This reminded me of that feeling.  Granted, it could show up on the list of Stuff White People Like, but hey… I’m white… What?

If you haven’t seen this already and are a Grizzly Bear fan, dig it…

Dear Guilty Pleasure,

7 03 2009

Dear Guilty Pleasure Gerard,

You are hot.

Let’s do it til the sun comes up.

Love,  Me.

OK,  but seriously… I like this cover very much.  Nice spin on Bob Dylan a la’ Against Me  but with their own lil’ Jersey twist.  Cool.  Video is slightly corny, but eh, who cares, they are promoting a film (Watchmen).  That’s showbiz.
